Maison&Objet PARIS 2024

Maison&Objet, one of the world’s leading international trade fairs dedicated to interior design and lifestyle, celebrated its 30th edition in 2024.

Twice a year, in January and September, Paris becomes a gathering place for every kind of objet—every item imaginable for enriching and embellishing the living spaces of the maison, or home.

At the vast exhibition center near Charles de Gaulle Airport, one of the largest of its kind in the world, Miraku-gama, the Takatori ware kiln, exhibited its works, and the Kamei Miraku family came to Paris for the occasion.

I was honored to be asked to give a tea ceremony demonstration on the opening day.

As I quietly began my temae, one or two people at a time began gathering around me, taking photographs and videos. At the Tokyo Tower Morning Tea Gathering, we kindly ask guests not to take videos, so although I am accustomed to performing temae, I still become rather nervous when cameras are brought close to me while I am in the middle of making tea.

Since food and drink are not permitted at the exhibition venue, unfortunately I could not actually serve the tea.

Even so, it was a great pleasure to see people gradually gather all around me simply because they wanted to watch the temae.
