Lecture at Grenoble University 2016

I had the privilege of holding a special lecture on the Way of Tea and Kamakura-bori at Grenoble University.

The lecture began with gracious opening remarks from Consul Kobayashi of the Consular Office in Lyon (Consulate of Japan).

Following a lecture on Kamakura-bori, we presented a demonstration of the Way of Tea. In the subsequent lecture on tea, I introduced a kakejiku that had been bestowed upon me by His Eminence Masamichi Yoshida, Abbot of Kenchō-ji, the head temple of the Kenchō-ji school of Rinzai Zen.

I centered my explanation on the teachings I had personally received from the Zen Master, presenting the meaning and background of the scroll as I had been instructed.

For the Kamakura-bori flower container, we arranged a spray of mimosa, bringing a touch of spring to the tea setting.
